A heartfelt talk on the power of music, love, and connection in dementia care…. The Levi Heywood Memorial Library, in partnership with the Gardner Museum, will host Dr. Randi Lebar for “Music and Memory: The Accidental Creation of a 92 Year-Old TikTok Star” on Tuesday, November 10, at 10:00 AM at the library.
Dr. Lebar tells the story of her mother, Elaine Lebar, a concert pianist and music educator who went viral on TikTok in 2020 while living in a memory care unit. Through many videos of Elaine at the piano, the presentation demonstrates the power of music, love, and connection. Dr. Lebar also shares lessons she learned about finding joy and meaning in their relationship despite her mother’s dementia. “We are so pleased to partner again with the Gardner Museum on this important program during National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month,” said Gina Verrelli, Assistant Director of the Levi Heywood Memorial Library. “Dr. Randi Lebar’s story of her mother, Elaine, shows how music can bring joy, connection, and meaning to people living with dementia, and we’re grateful to share it with our community.
The talk is expected to bring both laughter and tears, and it will entertain a wide audience while offering hope to anyone supporting a loved one at any stage of cognitive decline.
