  Community & Educational Events

  Buddhism Comes to Barre: On Thursday, April 9, Joseph Goldstein (co-founder of the Insight Meditation Center) will give a presentation at the Woods Memorial Library starting at 6:30 PM. This event celebrates the 50th anniversary of Insight Meditation in the community.

  2nd Annual Earth Day Repair Fair: Scheduled for Saturday, April 25, this free event at the Woods Memorial Library features volunteers teaching repair skills for electronics, clothing, and household items to promote sustainability.

  Clean Up Day at Felton Field: Community members are invited to help with weeding and maintenance on Sunday, April 26, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

  Plant it Forward!: A community event hosted by the Woods Memorial Library is planned for Wednesday, April 22, at 12:00 PM.

  Town Government & Elections

  2026 Annual Town Election: Voting will take place on Monday, April 6. – Polling Locations: Precise polling for Precinct 1 is at the Senior Center (557 So. Barre Rd) starting at 8:00 AM. – Key Deadlines: For qualified voters, the deadline to vote in person by Absentee Ballot is Friday, April 3, by 5:00 PM at the Town Clerk’s Office.

  Select Board Meetings: Regular meetings are scheduled for Monday, April 6, and Monday, April 20, at 5:00 PM in the Henry Woods Building.

  Music & Recreation

  New Leaf at the Stone Cow: Enjoy live music at the Stone Cow Brewery on Saturday, April 4, at 2:00 PM.

  Gentle Yoga for Osteoporosis: Classes with Rhonda Hamer are held at the Listening Wellness Center (35 South St) on Mondays, including April 6, at 12:00 PM.

  Library Programs: The Woods Memorial Library offers recurring activities such as: Tiny Tots & Tales: Early literacy for infants/toddlers on Wednesdays, April 1 and April 8, at 10:30 AM. Adult Craft Circle: A social gathering for knitters and crafters on Tuesday, April 7, at 3:00 PM

• Bear in Barre

  

  Black Bears in Barre MA and other Greater Gardner MA Communities – Some Advice

  This bear photo was captured by Evan Hunt and posted on the Barre MA Residents Forum. Bears have been spotted in Gardner, Winchendon, and other nearby communities as well.

  The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife has recommendations for human – black bear encounters. In general: Remain calm. Don’t run from a bear. Ensure the bear has an escape route, Back away when possible. If attacked, immediately fight back. Don’t feed bears. SEE COMPLETE FLYER.

• Bus in Barre

  

  Motor Vehicle and Bus Collide in Barre – No Serious Injuries Reported

  Barre Police reported in a Press Release that at about 7:15am on March 28, 2024, a school bus “was struck by a vehicle which crossed the center line, causing the bus to lose control and strike a guardrail and trees. There were students on the bus at the time. No one was seriously injured though the students were evaluated and one was transported as a precaution.” View Complete Press Release, CLICK HERE. The operator of the vehicle which struck the bus was placed in custody and is facing a number of charges enumerated in the Press Release.

  The Hubbardston Fire Department had posted, “A2 responded mutual aid to West St in Barre this morning to assist with a motor vehicle collision involving a fully loaded school bus. A2 evaluated multiple patients and transported one with non life threatening injuries to Heywood Hospital. … We are very thankful that there were no serious injuries in this crash.”
