The rise of remote work, industry-wide layoffs, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to create convincing fake websites have made these scams increasingly difficult to detect. Current data indicates that reported cases represent only a fraction (approximately 4.8%) of total victims, suggesting a massive undercount of the actual impact.
