Mayor Nicholson recapped some events and spoke about some upcoming events. He spoke of the Gardner Food Truck Festival which took place on July 8th, stating that the date for next year will be released shortly. He also thanked the various individuals involved in putting the event together and suggested that anyone having feedback on the festival can contact Colin Smith at the Mayor’s office. A more permanent name will eventually given to Park Street Park.
The Mayor spoke of Congresswoman Lori Trahan’s visit to Gardner to seek citizen input. He spoke about the new comfort dog, Sully, who has come to the Gardner Fire Department. Strands Hair Salon on Knowlton Street had a ribbon cutting. Greenwood Pool had to be drained due to broken glass goggles and is opening once water is refilled. Almost 400 students are involved in the Summer Recreation Program which actually employs about 60 individuals. National Night Out is Thursday, August 3, 2023. The city is looking for Trail Heroes (We have another story on this). The City Summer Centennial Celebration is Saturday July 22, 2023 at Mount Wachusett Community College.
Sidewalk work is taking place on Lawrence Street. More work is being done on Eaton Street taking down some trees, installing guardrails, and putting in the final cost of pavement.
Misinformation regarding Waterford Street School. (Publisher’s Note: A certain Facebook Group is notorious for spreading wrong info.) The Mayor wants everyone to know that the Community Center at Waterford Street School is still moving forward. There is simply a paperwork technicality regarding how the land was taken initially by eminent domain which has caused a delay of a couple of months.
