The Gardner Golf Commission met on August 3, 2026 and members discussed several operational updates and future plans. However, financial performance for the first three weeks of July was strong, with a reported revenue of $148,000 and a net profit of $55,000.
Members expressed concern about the unauthorized use of the driving range by independent instructors with a discussion focused on potential liability and professional optics.
The usual financial reports were reviewed, the arrival of new maintenance equipment was detailed, and upcoming infrastructure repairs to the range netting were discussed.
Utility work by National Grid near hole 13 is ongoing, involving the replacement of wooden poles with high-tension steel poles. While the timeline for completion is uncertain, the actual replacement of poles is expected to happen quickly once initiated to minimize electrical service disruptions.
Youth and School Team Management: The course is managing a high volume of student athletes, including a school team with 35 participants.
- Usage Rules: To maintain balance and availability for the general public, teams are restricted from practicing on weekends. Range time is limited to a few times per week.
- Supervision: High numbers of players have created supervision challenges. The commission is coordinating schedules for four different teams to ensure there are no conflicts and that the range remains accessible to the public.
