Gardner Chair Luge
The Chair Luge is a signature event of the festival. Participants construct gravity-powered vehicles by mounting wheels, and optionally brakes and steering, to chairs.
- Safety Requirements: All competitors must wear helmets.
- Route: The course runs downhill from the Gardner Ale House toward Beauregard Liquors.
- Production: Managed by the Gardner Festival Committee, the race features “Human Bumpers” and a local emcee.
Steinholding (Masskrugstemmen)
The festival serves as an officially sanctioned competition site for the Massachusetts state contest, under the US Steinholding Association.
- The Challenge: Participants must hoist a 5-lb mug of Oktoberfest Lager with one arm for as long as possible without spilling.
- Participation: Limited to the first 10 men and first 10 women to volunteer at 1:00 PM sharp.
- Prizes: Winners receive the commemorative stein and advance to the state championship at Jack’s Abby Oktoberfest in Framingham the following weekend.
Run For A Beer
A revived tradition, this athletic event follows a new route that begins and ends at the Chair Luge starting line in front of the Gardner Ale House.
