The 2025 BBB Scam Tracker Risk Report provides a comprehensive analysis of fraudulent activity based on data submitted by consumers and businesses across the United States and Canada. This annual study evaluates threats using a specialized Risk Index that combines exposure, likelihood of loss, and the median amount of money stolen. According to the findings, investment and cryptocurrency scams remain the most dangerous threats, followed closely by deceptive employment opportunities and online purchases.
The report highlights a significant rise in text message scams and notes that while overall financial losses have decreased, certain demographics, particularly those aged 65 and older, remain highly susceptible to victimization. By identifying the most common contact methods and impersonated brands, the research aims to empower the public with practical tools to recognize and avoid evolving predatory tactics. Additional survey data explores the nonfinancial impact of these incidents, revealing the emotional toll and mental health challenges faced by those targeted.
