  • Man charged with murder in Chicopee shooting
    on May 7, 2024 at 10:50 pm

    A man has been charged with murder in a deadly shooting earlier this year in Chicopee, Massachusetts, according to NBC affiliate WWLP. The shooting reportedly happened Feb. 3 on Springfield Street, wounding 34-year-old Marquis Newson of Chicopee. Newson was hospitalized and died two days later. WWLP reported Tuesday that police had arrested 32-year-old Jalal Williams of Chicopee. The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office said he was arraigned on a murder charge Tuesday in Chicopee District Court. Williams is due back in court June 7, WWLP reported.

  • Man charged in Cape Cod stabbing that left victim with life-threatening injuries

    A 62-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stabbed Tuesday at his Cape Cod home, according to police. Officers in Barnstable, Massachusetts, responded to 911 calls reporting the stabbing on Old Stage Road shortly before 4 p.m. Police found the man had been stabbed multiple times. He was airlifted to a hospital in Rhode Island with life-threatening injuries. A 24-year-old man who is known to the victim was taken into custody, police said, adding that the incident is not random. The suspect’s name has not been released, but police say he will be arraigned Wednesday at Barnstable District Court on charges of armed assault to murder; assault and battery on a person over 60; and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60. The man is being held without bail pending his arraignment. Police said earlier that part of Old Stage Road was closed during an active investigation. No further information was immediately available.

    Police in Needham, Massachusetts, are looking for a missing woman. The Needham Police Department said Tuesday it was searching for 62-year-old Linda Croteau in an effort to check her well-being. Croteau was last seen at her former home in Needham on April 29, police said. She was last heard from Friday, May 4. Her cellphone was last pinged at 8:18 p.m. Saturday in Oxford, police said, noting that they were communicating with law enforcement in that town. Police describe Croteau as being about 5’2 and 130 pounds with brown and grey hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 781-444-1212.

  • Police investigating assault near high school in East Boston

    Police are investigating an assault that occurred near a high school in East Boston on Tuesday morning. Boston police said they received a call around 10:48 a.m. for a report of a male subject who had been assaulted by two other males on White Street near East Boston High School. The ages of the victim and suspects were not released. Police said Boston Emergency Medical Services responded, but there was no information on the extent of the injuries. A spokesperson for Boston Public Schools said the incident didn’t happen at the high school, but in the neighborhood. They were not sure if any of those involved in the incident were students. No further details were released.   • SUV crashes into Merrimack River in Lowell, driver escapes serious injury

    A motorist escaped serious injury when they crashed their vehicle into the Merrimack River in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Tuesday morning. Lowell police said they responded to a call shortly after 7:30 a.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash on outer Pawtucket Boulevard, which runs along the north side of the river. The involved vehicle was located in the river, with a lone adult male occupant still inside. Aerial footage from the scene showed what looked like an SUV on its side in the water a short distance from shore. Members of the Lowell Fire Department deployed a boat and got the occupant out of his vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK, police said. His name was not released. No other vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation by Lowell police.
