The Cause: Oakham’s police department has been severely understaffed, dropping down to just one full-time police officer following a recent resignation.
The Plan: Under the proposed deal, the Oakham department would dissolve and come under the leadership of the Barre Police Department by 2027. Barre officials are reviewing the operational and financial impact to ensure Oakham contributes enough funding to cover the expanded patrol area.
