The Gardner Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Steering Committee Meeting was held on September 23, 2025.
The committee discussed several topics related to CDBG funding and projects. There was an update on the demolition of 205-213 Main Street, which is now fully closed out with the land sale pending. Also discussed was the Greenwood Pool demolition and Outdoor Pavilion construction, noting slight delays due to asbestos abatement and the need for securing additional funding for the pavilion phase. The committee reviews the status of social services funding for Fiscal Years 2023 and 2024, highlighting improved processes for grant agreements and reporting requirements. Finally, there is extensive discussion regarding the potential sale or demolition of the School Street School, which holds a large portion of available unexpended CDBG funds, and initial conversations about new potential projects such as a community garden expansion and a private housing rehabilitation proposal.
