Progress in Hubbardston Discussed with Town Administrator Nathan Boudreau
We spoke with Nathan Boudreau on January 24, 2024. Hubbardston just received a Green Communities Grant which will impact heat in the library. “ I’m learning a ton about green communities and efficiency and heat pumps and electrical work because we just received a $188,000 green communities competitive grant. It’s going to be to put new high-efficiency heat pumps in the Hubbardston library where we house some of our offices”
Boudreau spoke in detail about his report to the Hubbardston Select Board on January 22nd. He spoke about working on the fiscal 2025 budget and the Governor’s proposal to increase unrestricted government aid by 3 percent. He also spoke about the legislative public forum coming up on February 5th, stating, “This represents a great opportunity for the people of Hubbardston to get a chance to talk directly to their legislators. “ He spoke of the 8 week Citizens Academy which will provide residents with an inside look at local government operations.
We spoke about the budget and Hubbardston is faced with an approximate 8 percent increase in the school budget – “the school takes up well over 60 percent of the annual operating budget and seems to be increasing every year.” Hubbardston added 20 students to the school system this year. We also spoke about the new communications tower for emergency services. Boudreau said they were waiting on the ability to put commercial carriers up there and increase cell phone reception.
