Gardner MA Board of Health with Information on Waste Disposal Bans Now in Effect
On November 1, 2022 it became illegal in Massachusetts to dispose of or transport textiles and mattresses, for the purpose of disposal. Definition of textiles in the law is bedding, clothing, curtains, fabric, footwear, towels, and even shoes. Contaminated items are exempt. In a social media post from a citizen concerned about what to do with a mattress, the Board of Health responded, “recycle them at the Transfer Station or at Raw Material Recovery Center on W Broadway…like Gardner has done for years ahead of the ban.” To get rid of textiles you can donate them.
